I'm sure it's not a competition but the instructors are demonstating the level of fitness they should be up to. Would you rather have someone working next to you, showing a level of competency, or pretending they could do the job and barking at you like too many people do already. Those who can't, teach: but not in this case!
The crossfit workouts I've done the first bit of competition was with myself, pushing to challenge myself physically, mentally, and inspirationally. A lot of us need these wake up calls! I've found strength in a group setting to be reach my goals. It all good stuff.
Our instructors working out right next to the recruits is a great example of leadership. So, YES!!! we are teaching them!
When I first started Crossfit, it was very benificial to see others times, and have them explain that working out at this kind of intenisity is a process. We take small steps at first then ramp up intesity and weight after form and consistency are mastered. The recuits are right where they need to be. Anyone who starts crossfit is right where they need to be. Scale workout according to abilities and fitness level. Casey, Todd, and Myself have all been doing CF for a while now and have a better understanding of the efficancny of the movements. So we are able to push ourself with better form and achieve a faster time. The only competition is against my self next time I do this Workout. Hopefully I will have been working out and eating good so that I can make progress and get a better time. That way showing myself that I have progressed to a better fitness level form the last time I did this workout.
This site is being opened for the Firefighters of Contra Costa County Fire Protection District as an online tool to assist with physical fitness. Crossfit workouts will be posted daily, along with articles, pictures, and videos related to Crossfit, Physical fitness, Nutrition, and other subjects related to the job of firefighting. This is your website, feel free to comment, ask questions, and poke fun of each other. The intent is to bring functional fitness to our firefighting community.
Is this a competition between the recruits and instructors or are we trying to teach them?
